Hypnotherapy for IBS & Stress

Stress can worsen digestive symptoms for many people. Gut-directed approaches and relaxation may help reduce the impact of stress on IBS. Please see your GP first to ensure symptoms have been medically assessed.

Hypnotherapy may help with this, but I do not claim it cures medical conditions. We will always talk through whether it is a suitable approach for you.

Stress and the gut

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can affect daily life, from work and travel to social plans and sleep. Many people find that stress, worry and tension make their symptoms feel worse, which in turn can add to the stress.

How hypnotherapy may help

Gut-directed approaches and relaxation may help reduce the impact of stress on IBS symptoms. Sessions may include deep relaxation, work on how you respond to symptoms and worry about them, and practical techniques you can use between sessions.

Please see your GP first

Digestive symptoms can have many causes, so it is important that yours have been medically assessed before we begin. Hypnotherapy is not a replacement for medical care. If you notice new or worrying symptoms such as bleeding, unexplained weight loss or persistent changes in bowel habit, please contact your GP promptly.

What to expect

At your consultation I ask about your symptoms, what you have already tried and what you would like to be different. As part of screening, I also ask about your medical history. We then agree a plan together. I do not claim that hypnotherapy cures IBS or any medical condition.

Common questions

Can hypnotherapy cure IBS?

No. It may help some people reduce the impact of stress on their symptoms. Results vary and it works best alongside medical advice.

Is online hypnotherapy suitable for IBS?

Many people find online sessions work well, as hypnosis relies on guided focus rather than being in the same room. We will check suitability at your consultation.

What to expect

Sessions take place online by secure video, on Thursdays, and last around 45 to 55 minutes. Your first consultation is free and confidential. We talk through what brings you to therapy and whether hypnotherapy is right for you. You stay awake, aware and in control throughout.
