Hypnotherapy for Phobias & Fears
A phobia is an intense fear of a particular thing or situation that can limit everyday life. Hypnotherapy may help you relax, change how you respond to what frightens you and build confidence at a pace that feels safe. We begin by understanding your experience, then tailor sessions to you.
Hypnotherapy may help with this, but I do not claim it cures medical conditions. We will always talk through whether it is a suitable approach for you.
When fear takes over
A phobia is more than ordinary nervousness. It is an intense fear of a particular thing or situation, such as flying, needles, the dentist, heights, driving, spiders or speaking in public. The fear can feel out of proportion, yet very hard to control, and many people go to great lengths to avoid what frightens them.
How hypnotherapy may help
Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation and focus. Many people find that in this state it is easier to step back from fearful reactions and begin to respond more calmly. Sessions may include relaxation techniques, work on the thoughts and images linked to the fear, and practical ways of coping that you can use between sessions.
A gentle, paced approach
You will never be pushed or made to face anything before you are ready. At your consultation we talk about what you fear, how it affects your life, what you have tried and what you would like to be able to do. I then tailor sessions to you. You stay awake, aware and in control throughout, and can stop at any time.
Is hypnotherapy right for you?
Screening is part of the process, and I ask about your medical and mental health history before we begin. If your fear is linked to a past frightening experience, or comes with panic or wider anxiety, we will talk this through so the approach is right for you. Hypnotherapy can sit alongside other support but does not replace medical care. If your fear is severe or affecting your health, please also speak to your GP.
Common questions
Can hypnotherapy cure a phobia?
I do not claim it cures conditions. It may help many people feel calmer and respond differently to what frightens them. Results vary.
Will I have to face my fear in the session?
No. We go at a pace that feels safe for you, and you stay in control throughout.
