Hypnotherapy for Low Mood
Low mood can leave you feeling flat, tired or stuck, and can affect sleep, motivation and relationships. Hypnotherapy may help you relax, feel more positive and build small practical habits that support how you feel. It can sit alongside, not replace, support from your GP.
Hypnotherapy may help with this, but I do not claim it cures medical conditions. We will always talk through whether it is a suitable approach for you.
When everything feels flat
Low mood can make life feel heavy. You may feel flat, tearful or irritable, find it hard to enjoy things you used to like, or struggle with energy, motivation and concentration. It can also affect sleep, appetite and relationships.
See your GP if it lasts
Low mood that continues for more than a couple of weeks, or that is affecting your daily life, should be assessed by your GP. This is important so that you get the right support. Hypnotherapy can sit alongside medical care but is not a replacement for it. If you ever have thoughts of harming yourself, please call 999 or Samaritans free on 116 123 at any time.
How hypnotherapy may help
Hypnotherapy may help you relax, ease tension and feel more positive and in control. In a calm, focused state, many people find it easier to step back from unhelpful thoughts and begin to build small, practical habits that support how they feel. Sessions may also include relaxation techniques you can use between appointments.
What to expect
As a registered mental health nurse with over 30 years’ NHS experience, I take care to understand what you are going through. At your consultation we talk about how you have been feeling, what has helped or not helped and what you would like to be different. Screening is part of the process, and I ask about your medical and mental health history. If hypnotherapy is not the right approach for you, I will say so and suggest you speak to your GP.
Common questions
Can hypnotherapy treat low mood?
It may help some people feel calmer and more positive, alongside other support. It is not a substitute for medical assessment or treatment, and results vary.
Should I see my GP first?
If your low mood has lasted more than a couple of weeks or is affecting daily life, yes. Your GP can assess what is going on and discuss the support available.
What to expect
Sessions take place online by secure video, on Thursdays, and last around 45 to 55 minutes. Your first consultation is free and confidential. We talk through what brings you to therapy and whether hypnotherapy is right for you. You stay awake, aware and in control throughout.
